World Pork Expo will Host Pork Professionals from Around the World

DES MOINES, Iowa, June 2, 2016 – World Pork Expooffers innovation, networking and education as more than 20,000 pork producers and ag professionals from across the world convene June 8-10 at the Iowa State Fairgrounds in Des Moines. Presented by the National Pork Producers Council (NPPC), Expo showcases the world’s largest pork-specific trade show, educational seminars, national youth swine shows, open shows and sales, as well as tasty grilled pork and more. Producers, exhibitors and media from approximately 48 countries are expected to attend the 2016 event.

“For anyone interested in pork production, World Pork Expo offers a well-rounded experience. There are seminars where you can hear about the latest research, shop the trade show to see what’s new, and network with fellow pork producers,” says John Weber, NPPC president and pork producer from Dysart, Iowa. “Expo is a great place to re-charge your engine and return home with new ideas.”

Weber encourages attendees to stop by the NPPC booth or hospitality tent to visit with the staff and leadership who advocate for pork businesses every day. “It’s an opportunity to learn about what’s been achieved and what lies ahead,” he adds.

The trade show is the centerpiece of Expo, giving pork producers a one-stop venue to compare products, services and technologies for their businesses. Hundreds of companies based in North America, Asia and Europe will fill exhibit space that spans more than 310,000 square feet. The trade show will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, June 8, and Thursday, June 9, as well as from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, June 10.

“The outdoor exhibit space has been expanded and there are more hospitality tents this year, so there’s even more to explore,” says Sheila Warrick, Expo’s general manager. “Attendees should be sure to allow enough time to see everything that Expo has to offer.”

Another big show for the Junior National

The World Pork Expo Junior National is ranked among the nation’s premier youth swine shows. This year a record 1,290 youth from 32 states will participate in a variety of events, including a Skillathon, judging contests, certification programs and live hog shows. Hosted by the National Junior Swine Association and Team Purebred, the Expo Junior National begins on Monday, June 6, with events and shows running through June 10. All activities will take place in the Swine Barn. As a special feature, classes in one of the two show rings will be live-cast as well as recorded for future viewing.

Total entries for both the Junior National and the open shows are projected to display 3,800 hogs, up slightly from 2015’s level of 3,200 hogs. The open show will take place on Friday, June 10, with breeding stock sales on Saturday, June 11, from 9 a.m. to about noon.

There’s something for everyone

Expo is the place for pork producers to collect the most up-to-date information and select from more than a dozen freeeducational seminars. Experts will address business management, production technologies and future developments that will impact pork producers. Scheduled throughout Wednesday, June 8, and Thursday, June 9, both the Business Seminars and PORK Academy will take place in the Varied Industries Building.

MusicFest offers Expo attendees an opportunity to relax and enjoy a summer evening. This free concert runs from 4:30 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, June 9, along Grand Avenue at the Fairgrounds. Kicking off this year’s lineup is Iowa native and The Voice contestant, Casey Muessigmann, whose passion for life shines through his high-energy country music. Headlining MusicFest are The Surf City Allstars, whose five members make up the only band to have played and sang with both the Beach Boys and Jan & Dean. The Surf City Allstars are hailed as the most authentic and committed Beach Boys tribute band.

There’s always plenty of mouthwatering pork at Expo, and the Big Grill is not to be missed. Iowa’s Tama County Pork Producers Association will once again serve free pork lunches hot off the Big Grill each day of Expo from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

There’s still timehead to World Pork Expo

“The 2016 World Pork Expo is just a few days away, but there’s still time for pork producers, their families and staff to join us in Des Moines,” Warrick says. “There’s certainly something for everyone, and we want every attendee to walk away from Expo with insights that are useful and beneficial to them.”

The entrance fee is $20 per adult and $3 for children ages 6 to 11; there is no charge for children 5 years of age and younger. This admission price includes entry into Expo all three days. A special rate of $10 is available for adults arriving on Friday.

Stay up-to-date on all the events and activities by connecting with World Pork Expo on Facebook, follow Expo on Twitter (#WPX16), and download the free mobile app by searching “World Pork” in the Apple Store, Android Market or Blackberry’s App World.

Preview – IFT 2016

Lycored showcases real food ingredient solutions

A Dry Tomato Pulp (DTP) that offers an innovative three-in-one ingredient solution for prepared food products will take center-stage for Lycored at this year’s IFT (Stand 4457). DTP is a 100% natural real food ingredient from tomato that can be declared on the label simply as ‘Tomato’. It adds a fresh, consistent red color to sauces (including pasta sauces), condiments, soups, ready meals, and processed meats with no risk of turning brown like some other colorants. In addition, it also provides an authentic cooked-from-scratch texture and a healthy fiber content.

Lycored will also showcase SANTE, a taste enhancer that provides a high concentration of the natural compounds that produce umami (the fifth taste) and kokumi (the Japanese word for deliciousness) to accentuate existing flavor characteristics while remaining taste neutral. SANTE enables product formulators to create deliciousness naturally and reduce levels of ingredients that can be unattractive on the label, such as salt, MSG and yeast.

The benefits of Lycored’s real food ingredients will be brought to life on its stand at IFT by leading chef Tony Lagana of Culinary Systems, who will create a range of delicious recipes that demonstrate how they can be formulated into products consumers will love.

Lycored, the global leader in carotenoids, will also showcase its range of Tomat-O-Red® and Lyc-O-Beta® natural colors – vibrant reds, oranges and yellows that make it easy for food and beverage manufacturers to stop using artificial ingredients. Natural colors from Lycored are certified Kosher and Halal, non-GMO, vegetarian and are heat, light and pH stable.

Bigger, better, busier – Vitafoods Europe breaks visitor records in its 20th year

Vitafoods Europe 2016 welcomed a total of 17,666 visitors through its doors – an increase of 13% over last year, and an all-time high.

For the first time this year Vitafoods Europe took place across four halls at Palexpo, creating extra exhibition space for more stands and visitor attractions. The additional room was put to good use, with a total of 900 exhibitors taking part – 10% more than last year – and a host of new and original content that brought the nutraceutical industry to life.

Held at Palexpo in Geneva from 10-12 May 2016, this year’s event was Vitafoods Europe’s 20th anniversary. It was a truly international affair with visitors hailing from 115 different countries. The show proved a huge hit with visitors, with many reporting that it had provided a superb opportunity to meet and do business with new and existing contacts across the nutrition sector.

Sofia Hoffmann De Mendonça, Business Development Manager at Allmicroalgae, was among those impressed by what she saw. “There seems to have been an increase not only in the exhibitor numbers but also in the quality of the exhibitors,” she said. “It’s key for me to attend because Vitafoods Europe gives you a good overview of the market trends and it’s a great place to meet key suppliers and prospects, not only from Europe but also from Asia and Australia.”

Nick Morgan, Managing Director of Sports Integrated, commented: “There are a lot of exhibitors, which is good to give you an understanding of the state of the industry and it’s good to have them all at one place. The show works well in terms of meeting new people and understanding challenges within the industry.”

Maria Pujol of Bonderalia Montoil said: “It’s my first time here and I’m very impressed. It’s really big with a lot of different companies from many countries. It’s well organised and easy to find what I’m looking for. Vitafoods Europe is the best place for our company to look for new suppliers, as we are a distributor, but also to meet with existing clients.”

Exhibitors praise visitor numbers and quality

There was also plenty of praise for Vitafoods Europe 2016 from exhibitors. Fernando Cartagena, Global Head of Marketing at Monteloeder, said: “Vitafoods is a very interesting show to see innovations, new clinical trials, new applications and technologies for ingredients. By far this is the best show in terms of quality of visitors and number of exhibitors in Europe. If there is a place where you can meet most of your contacts in Europe it is Vitafoods – that’s why we come here.”

Marco Joosten, Managing Director of Sana Hemp juice, said he was delighted with the number of visitors. “The majority of the visitors to our stand have been decision makers,” he explained. “We come here because Vitafoods Europe is the place to be if you want to exhibit something innovative in the health and nutrition world. We need to be here.”

Golan Raz, Senior Vice President of the Health Nutrition Division at Lycored (the official Heart Health Sponsor of Vitafoods Europe), said:“I’ve been participating in Vitafoods for many years and it’s impressive to see how the show grows. I think the set-up this year was excellent, very easy to navigate. I heard that also from visitors. At the end of the day, that’s the most important.”

Karina Bedrack, Sales & Marketing Communications Manager at Algatechnologies, praised the quantity and quality of the visitors attending. “They are coming here to gain knowledge and to buy,” she said. “That is something you don’t see at every show. We’re definitely coming back next year.”

New attractions prove popular with visitors

Vitafoods Europe 2016 heralded a fresh approach that increased the focus of the event on the key areas that matter most to visitors. In order to offer a richer experience, the show focused on four distinct sectors, as follows:

·        Ingredients & Raw Materials

·        Finished Products

·        Contract Manufacturing & Private Label

·        Services & Equipment

Vitafoods Europe 2016 also featured a number of new and returning visitor attractions that placed the emphasis on interaction and meeting the business challenges of today. Making its debut was the Sports Nutrition Zone, where visitors could discover the latest developments in the exciting and fast-growing sports nutrition category. In the Optimal Health Testing Centre, meanwhile, exhibitors demonstrated how to identify specific health needs and deliver tailored nutrition solutions to meet them.

Also premiering at Vitafoods Europe 2016 was the Springboard Pavilion, a dedicated space for visitors to engage with start-ups and other entrepreneurs at the cutting edge of the nutrition sector. The Vitafoods LaunchPad, meanwhile, was a new feature where visitors could hear concise, bite-sized presentations from exhibitors about the latest product launches in the nutrition industry. LaunchPad products were also available to view close at hand in the Vitafoods New Products Zones.

The new attractions – and those returning from last year’s Vitafoods Europe – proved to be a huge draw and feedback from visitors and exhibitors was extremely positive. Visitor Irina Starodubtseva, Business Development Manager at InVita, said: “The innovations zones and the overview of the market trends were excellent. I particularly liked the Sports Nutrition Zone. The exhibition seems to have grown and it’s great that so many regions are represented. It is valuable for us to be here to search for new suppliers, keep updated on market trends and also meet with our existing suppliers.”

Exhibitor America’s Naturals participated in the Tasting Bar, a long-standing favourite with visitors, where it won an award for Best Tasting Functional Beverage. Kathleen Brock, the company’s Vice President, said: “Being in the Tasting Bar is great exposure. Many people said they saw our product in the Tasting Bar and then came to our stand. We love our location and we have had so much traffic. It seems like there are even more visitors this year.”

Featuring for the second year running was the Omega-3 Resource Centre in association with GOED. Ellen Schutt, Communications Director for GOED, said: “It was a great show. We had 10 of our members that exhibited with us and for the most part we’ve heard that they were very happy with the traffic and the quality of the attendance. We had a mini-theatre inside our pavilion, and the sessions were very well attended, and I think there was a very good exchange of information.”

Another new feature, the Vitafoods Centre Stage, played host to speakers on a range of topics including sports nutrition, business growth strategies, regulatory compliance and formulating for the consumer. It was also the scene of the Vitafoods Venture Den, an exciting new competition giving nutraceutical start-ups the opportunity to pitch to investors and compete for prize package worth €75,000. In a tight contest, the winner was botanical ingredients supplier Mazza Innovation, which uses a novel extraction method called PhytoClean™.

Strong conference line-up

Running alongside the exhibition was the Vitafoods Europe Conference, which boasted a strong line-up of speakers from the worlds of academia, market research and industry. Delegate feedback was very positive. One attendee said: “The quality of speakers has been excellent.” Another commented: “The choice of speakers was very good and the topics fitted well with what’s important in the industry at the moment.”

Speakers also praised the conference. Steve French, Managing Partner at NMI (Natural Marketing Institute), said: “The education programme at the conference has been very impressive and high quality across a variety of different topics.” His views were echoed by Joerg Gruenwald, founder of analyze & realize. “The Vitafoods Conference is getting better every year,” he said. “As a chairman and speaker I was impressed with the quality of the talks and speakers.”

Chris Lee, Vitafoods Portfolio Director, said: “Vitafoods Europe 2016 was our 20th anniversary and it was a truly special international event. We’re delighted at the numbers of visitors we welcomed through Palexpo’s doors and also very pleased that they found the event a stimulating and rewarding environment in which to meet and do business. This year’s Vitafoods Europe broke all records in terms of visitor and exhibitor numbers, and the Vitafoods Conference was once again a major success. The global nutraceuticals sector is vibrant and thriving – and Vitafoods Europe is the number one meeting place for the industry, delivering opportunities for people to develop their network of contacts and get business done.”

World Pork Expo Seminars Offer the Latest Ideas and Information

DES MOINES, Iowa, May 24, 2016 – World Pork Expoattendees will have access to leading pork experts and the latest ideas and information at a variety of seminarsscheduled for Wednesday, June 8 and Thursday, June 9. Included in their Expo admission price, pork producers and their staff can participate in more than a dozen educational seminars addressing topics such as business management, production technologies and future developments impacting pork operations. The seminars are just one of many events featured at the 2016 World Pork Expo, brought to you by the National Pork Producers Council (NPPC), June 8-10 at the Iowa State Fairgrounds in Des Moines, Iowa.

“The Expo seminars provide a tremendous opportunity for pork producers running all types and sizes of operations to collect new ideas to take back home,” says John Webber, NPPC president and pork producer from Dysart, Iowa. “Pork producers are continually learning, and these seminars offer forums where producers can ask questions specific to their operations, exchange insights and develop business strategies for the future.”

Business seminars target competitive advantage

This year’s business seminars will present ideas for producers to maximize their competitive advantages from the farrowing house to the global marketplace.

On Wednesday, June 8, from 9:30 a.m. to noon, Hamlet Protein will feature experts in piglet nutrition and gut health discussing the development of the post-weaning gut and how to optimize performance. They will delve into the role of weaning age and the implications of ingredient selection, as well as whole-diet-formulation targets.

On Wednesday from 1 to 2 p.m., and again from 3 to 4 p.m., Tonisity, Inc., will present insights into preparing piglets at birth for a successful, low-stress weaning. Researchers will share on-farm trial results of a new isotonic protein drink that helps suckling pigs stay hydrated, which in turn can decrease pre-weaning mortality, increase weaning weights, improve gut function and digestion, and more.

Completing the business seminar lineup on Thursday, June 9, from 8:30 a.m. to noon, Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica, Inc., will host “Join the Race – Maximize Your Competitive Advantage.” Presenters will discuss opportunities in a global market, how to anticipate and respond to changing conditions and how on-farm strategies impact current and future success.

PORK Academy addresses on-farm issues

Included in Expo’s free seminar lineup is PORK Academy, long valued for providing practical and forward-looking information. Presented by the Pork Checkoff, PORK Academy sessions will take place in the Varied Industries Building throughout Wednesday and Thursday. This year’s offering will address such timely matters as adapting to upcoming changes in on-farm antibiotic use, preparing for a Common Swine Industry Audit, addressing cybersecurity and much more.

“Expo seminars provide wonderful insights that pork producers can use to make their operations more productive and efficient, but there are many other things to see and do,” says Sheila Warrick, Expo’s general manager. “Expo hosts the world’s largest pork-specific trade show, which has even more exhibit space this year, so producers may want to plan to allow a bit more time to view all the latest innovations.”

Trade show hours run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, June 8 and Thursday, June 9, as well as 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, June 10. Attendees can enjoy free pork lunches all three days of Expo at The Big Grill. The World Pork Expo Junior National hog show begins on Monday, June 6.
